Project Facts
  • The existing West Fork Hoquiam River Bridges are structurally deficient timber construction and need to be replaced.
  • Improves motorist safety.
  • The new single span concrete bridges will not require construction in the river.

Project Status

November  2008

Read this week's construction activity and traffic impacts report.

The contract was awarded to Ross Bros. & Company, Incorporated of Salem, Oregon. Construction started in May 2008 and is scheduled to be complete in early 2009.

Why is WSDOT replacing bridges on US 101?
WSDOT is replacing both of the West Fork Hoquiam River bridges due to structural deficiencies. Both bridges were constructed with timber and are now suffering rot damage and are severely weathered.

The End Result
This project constructs two new concrete bridges that meet current seismic and engineering standards.

Project Benefits

  • Safety - This project addresses bridge safety concerns. These two timber bridges over the West Fork Hoquiam River are structurally deficient. Replacing these bridges with new bridges improves motorist safety.
  • Environmental - This project improves the natural flow of the river by removing the piles from the river. The new single span concrete bridges will not require construction in the river.

What is the project timeline?
Construction started in the spring of 2008 and is scheduled to be complete in early 2009.
