US 101 was paved from the Astoria Bridge to the intersection of SR 4. The paving began at the Astoria Bridge in Pacific County, (MP 0.44) continued north west through the town of Chinook, and then proceeded through Illwaco until intersecting with SR 100. After intersecting with SR 100, paving continued east to the US 101 by-pass before traveling north and ending at SR 4.
This section of US 101 was in need of paving to repair the deteriorating pavement. The pavement was beyond its useful life span. Deteriorating pavement is likely to crack and develop ruts, causing an unsafe driving surface for motorists.
Just over 12 miles of SR 401 was resurfaced in Pacific County.
Improvements were made to nearly five miles of pavement along SR 4 in Wahkiakum County. Improvements included resurfacing the pavement, replacing guardrail and signs where needed, and pavement work.
Signals were replaced and installed on US 101.
The previous signal at the intersection of US 101 and SR 100 in Ilwaco was replaced. A new signal has been installed at the intersection of US Highway 101 and Sandridge road.
Other improvements have been made through this project such as replacing guardrail, restoring pavement markings and replacing signs.
