The paving began at the Astoria Bridge in Pacific County, (MP 0.44) continued north west through the town of Chinook, and then proceeded through Illwaco until intersecting with SR 100. After intersecting with SR 100, paving continued east to the US 101 by-pass before traveling north and ending at SR 4. This section of US 101 was in need of paving to repair the deteriorating pavement. The pavement was beyond its useful life span. Deteriorating pavement is likely to crack and develop ruts, causing an unsafe driving surface for motorists.
