August 2008
WSDOT has started this work in the 03-05 biennium. Please see the September 2003 edition of the Department's
"Gray Notebook"
Why is WSDOT
replacing or retrofitting Bridge Rail around the state?
There is existing bridge rail that does not meet current safety standards of withstanding a 10,000 pound impact.
The End Result
This work will reduce the likelihood of vehicles penetrating through the bridge rail.
Project Benefits
The benefits of this project will be increased safety for the traveling public by reducing the severity of accidents. The steel rail will allow a vehicle striking the rail to slide along rather than penetrate or get hung up on a post, increasing the danger to occupants.
What is the project timeline?
Work started in the Summer of 2003 and will be complete by June 2013.
