SR 99 - North Corridor Study - Complete March 2003

Overview
SR 99/Aurora Avenue North is experiencing increasing levels of traffic congestion and collisions among vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.  In order to address this, we created a long-range corridor plan with recommendations to improve safety and mobility for all users -- drivers, transit riders, freight carriers, pedestrians and bicyclists.

This plan identified accident areas that have a high number of collisions and determined ways to improve safety.  The study developed both short-term and long-term improvement recommendations to address safety and congestion for the SR 99 northbound corridor from downtown Seattle to Shoreline.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
WSDOT identified potential safety improvements for users of the corridor -- vehicles, buses, bicyclists, freight carriers and pedestrians. Future recommendations include:
Measures to manage access to the corridor
 Intersection and signal improvements
 Lighting for safety
Improvements to reduce pedestrian accidents and create walkways for safety.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
The plan includes recommendations for safety and mobility to improve traffic flow.
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
WSDOT conducted a planning level environmental investigation of the corridor as a component of this corridor study. The plan outlined the environmental review process to show the steps from analysis through design and implementation.
