When and where?
Construction work is in full swing under the Alaskan Way Viaduct, between South King and Spring streets and in the tunnel launch pit area west of CenturyLink Field.
People living or working nearby may see or hear crews performing soil stabilization and tunnel excavation work seven days a week.
How is WSDOT minimizing noise?
We are working with Seattle's Department of Planning and Development to help minimize noise disruptions for nearby residents and businesses. Our efforts include:
- Notifying nearby neighbors and businesses prior to periods of noisy nighttime construction.
- Building and maintaining noise walls around the tunnel launch pit near Alaskan Way South.
- Locating stationary equipment and idle trucks as far away from noise-sensitive neighbors as possible.
- Surrounding stationary equipment with portable noise shields and using noise blankets and skirts whenever possible.
Will there be night construction work?
Yes. Crews working for WSDOT will work overnight, including evening and early morning hours. We understand that overnight work can be disruptive and will plan our work carefully to minimize noise.
Our agreement with the City prohibits the following noisy work activities after 10 p.m.:
- Jack hammering.
- Loud backup alarms.
- Road scraping.
