Crews will replace the south approach to the Spokane Street overpass just south of the West Seattle Bridge. The approach was built with timber supports in the 1950s.Sections of the timber supports are now splitting and rotting, and are now considered obsolete. The timber supports will be replaced with a solid concrete embankment. WSDOT upgraded the rest of the overcrossing during the 1990s. You can see one of the seismically retrofitted columns toward the right of the photo, behind the red car. The timber supported southern approach meets the seismically upgraded sections of the overcrossing at the E. Marginal Way S. undercross.
