On Sunday, March 29, 2009, WSDOT crews attached a mockup of a fence panel to the bridge to better visualize what the fence will look like. View a flickr photo gallery of the mockup panel installation.

On July 30-31, WSDOT engineers inspected the Aurora Bridge to examine the conditions under the existing rail and sidewalk, and to investigate options for attaching the new fence.

 
The Aurora Bridge was built in 1931 and is officially named the George Washington Memorial Bridge. It is a National Historic Landmark.  Shown here, Queen Anne on the upper portion, leading to Fremont in the lower right.

 
The Aurora Bridge is 2,945 feet long, 70 feet wide and 167 feet above Lake Union.  This photos leads from Fremont on the lower portion to Queen Anne in the upper right.

 
The Aurora Bridge links Queen Anne and Fremont. It carries Aurora Avenue (SR99) over the west end of Seattle's Lake Union.
