Overview
Replaced an aging culvert under State Route 92, located just west of 99th Avenue, and just north of Lake Stevens. The new culvert helps keep water off the road and serves as an important fish passage to Stevens Creek.
Culverts are important for both driver safety and the environment. During heavy rain culverts control flooding and also serve as a passage for fish like trout and salmon.
 | Improves Safety
The new culvert will help prevent flooding during heavy rain. This keeps the highway safe for everyone using the road.
|
 | Protects Environment
Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife identified the old culvert as a barrier for fish passage. The new culvert helps fish pass through Upper Stevens Creek, which may support Coho salmon, resident cutthroat trout and possibly kokanee salmon. The presence of juvenile salmon has been documented downstream of the existing culvert.
