SR 9 - SR 522 to 212th St. SE - SR 524 - Stage 1B and 2 - Complete May 2008

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending September 2003

Project Title & Location
SR 9 – SR 522 to 212th St. SE; Widening            (Stages 1b & 2), North Woodinville

Project Description
This project adds lanes and enhances safety on 1.8 miles of congested state highway.

Contractor/Consultant
Project not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
WSDOT continues to apply for various environmental permits.  WSDOT is making some minor modifications to the design and the right of way need in order to comply with new environmental regulations.  Continuing right of way purchase.  Recent vehicle counts show average daily traffic = 21,000 - 25,000.

Design Construction Impacts
State biologists have made a recent discovery of Endangered Species fish in the west roadside ditch; regulatory agencies require WSDOT to make a revision in the highway alignment and right of way need to comply with environmental regulations, shifting the new roadway several feet to the east.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

No significant impacts.  Mitigation efforts include avoidance measures (shifting the new highway to avoid/reduce wetland and stream impacts) and adherence to state and federal permit requirements, including the Endangered Species Act.

· This project will construct storm water treatment facilities for both water quality and quantity.  Use of temporary erosion control measures during construction will minimize impacts.

Impacts to Traffic
Construction will start in summer 2005, traffic will experience narrower lanes & shoulders, slower speeds, and occasional flagger stopped traffic during the daytime, as well as some advanced publicized nighttime and weekend closures (single lane or entire roadway) may occur.  All 4 lanes should be open to traffic in summer 2007.
