Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending June 2006

Project Title & Location
SR 9 – SR 522 to 212th St. SE; Widening
(Stages 1b & 2), North Woodinville

Project Description
This project adds lanes and enhances safety on 1.8 miles of congested state highway.

Contractor/Consultant
Wilder Construction of Everett.

Recent Progress

Utility companies’ relocation work has been completed to make room for the highway widening.

Water line installation for Cross Valley Water District has been completed up to Maltby Road.

Wall 6 installation has been completed.

Temporary Signal at 228th has been completed.

Design Construction Impacts

Utility relocation work and right of way acquisition were a concern for the potential schedule delay and increase construction cost.  However, we have worked with the contractor to resolve these issues.

More than anticipate ground water and offsite water has impeded the contractor ability to do the work.  Dewatering system and French trench were installed to help mitigate the problem.  However, we anticipate that this problem will be on going and will have cost impact to the project.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

There were no environmental violations thus far.  All work performed to date has been compliant with the project environmental permit conditions.

Impacts to Traffic

Traffic has experience narrower lanes and shoulders, slower speeds and occasional stopped traffic in construction work zones during the daytime.  Some night and weekend lane and roadway closures occurred during construction period.  A comprehensive public information effort to share timing of construction activities and traffic impacts has occurred.
