Project Description
This project adds lanes and enhances safety on 1.8 miles of congested state highway.

Recent Progress
Groundbreaking event was held on 9/22/05. SR 9/240th St. SE drainage work next to railroad tracks was completed in early September. 2005 Fish Window expired on September 15, 2005. Detention pond construction completed on CP Pond and EZ Pond. Winter work suspension granted on November 1, 2005. Maintenance of environmental protection measures on-going through winter.
Snohomish Public Utility District (SnoPUD) and other Utility companies relocation work (including tree removal) has been on-going since summer to make room for the highway widening. Overhead utility relocation work to be completed by mid-December between SR 522 and 212th St. SE. Utility relocation work, north of 212th to be completed by June 1, 2006.

Design Construction Impacts
Due to the winter work suspension, no roadway widening construction impacts are anticipated through the winter. However, the utility relocation work, which will be on-going until June 1, 2006, will require intermittent single lane closures on SR 9 to remove trees and/or utility poles.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
There were no environmental violations through 12/31/2005. All work, performed to date, has been compliant with the project environmental permit conditions.

Impacts to Traffic
Other than intermittent single lane closures on SR 9, there are no traffic impacts anticipated through the winter months. However, once work resumes in the spring 2006, traffic will experience narrower lanes and shoulders, slower speeds and occasional stopped traffic in construction work zones during the daytime. Also, some night and weekend lane and roadway closures will occur during the construction period. A comprehensive public information effort to share timing of construction activities and traffic impacts will occur at a public open house meeting in late February/early March.
