Thursday night, August 9, crews working to widen SR 9 from SR 522 to 212th Street SE reached a major milestone. They switched traffic from the east side of the road to the newly constructed west side of the road.

"We thank people in this area for their patience," said project Engineer John Chi. "This is a very noticeable sign that we are making progress and will be able to open the new lanes soon."
This traffic shift will allow crews to continue their work building the raised median and paving the east side of the road. If everything goes as planed, and there are no major weather delays, they should be able to open the new lanes by fall. That would put crews six months ahead of the scheduled spring 2008 opening.

Although the new lanes may open early, crews will continue their work widening the ramps between SR 9 and SR 522.
