Two intersections on State Route 9 in Snohomish County received safety improvements.
Roundabout at SR 9/84th Street Northeast near Marysville
Contractor crews installed a new roundabout to improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of serious collisions.
Traffic signal at SR 9/32nd Street Southeast near Lake Stevens
A signal that controls traffic in all directions was installed at this intersection to provide drivers with safer opportunities to turn across lanes of traffic while either entering or leaving the highway.
Between 2015 and 2035, we estimate traffic volumes through this intersection will increase by 48 percent. These enhancements are part of WSDOT's long-term plans to continue improving the SR 9 corridor through widening, intersection improvements, divided medians and other improvements. More information is available on the SR 9 corridor program website.
Both locations have been the site of serious collisions.
The SR 9/84th Street Northeast intersection was the site of 43 collisions between 2007 and 2012.
Roundabouts help reduce the risk of collisions.
There were 18 collisions at the SR 9/32nd Street Southeast intersection between 2006 and 2010.
Studies have shown that roundabouts move traffic more quickly through an intersection with less congestion because they promote a continuous flow of traffic.
