Project Description
This project adds lanes and enhances safety on 2.7 miles of congested state highway.

Contractor/Consultant
This project is not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
WSDOT is working on the design of this widening project along this portion of Highway 9.  An updated traffic study, delineation of wetlands and streams have been completed. Design team is working on alternative analysis to finalize the roadway footprint and right of way needs. Roadway footprint and right of way plans will be ready by summer of 2008. A public open house is scheduled for February 7, 2008.

Design Construction Impacts

Traffic volumes and development along this highway corridor have grown much faster than was anticipated when the need for this project was first identified over ten years ago.  In response to this, WSDOT has advanced some of the design funding for this project by one year.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

This project will meet all applicable permit requirements and avoid any stream or wetland impacts where possible or mitigate for the impact through the creation or enhancement of new wetlands.

This project will construct storm water facilities to treat for quality and quantity.  Construction will incorporate use of temporary erosion control measures to minimize impacts.

Impacts to Traffic
Construction will start in the summer of 2011.  Traffic will experience narrower lanes and shoulders, slower speeds and occasional stopped traffic in construction work zones during the daytime.  Also, some night and weekend lane and roadway closures may occur during the construction period.
