Recent Progress
The design of this project began in April, 2004.  Surveying for existing conditions is in progress.

Design Construction Impacts

This project overlaps proposed improvements included in the Nickel project entitled "SR 9-212th Street SE to 176th St SE - Stage 3".   Under the present scope, the left turn lanes at 188th St. SE is within the scope of the widening work of another project, SR 9 212th St. SE to 176th St. SE - Stage 3.  That project is scheduled for construction three years after this project.  This means that any improvements made at 188th Street SE in this project will become obsolete within a few years.

The recent Engineer's Estimate significantly exceeds the project budget.  The cost increase is due to increased wetland mitigation, stormwater treatment/detention, and soils issues related to widening the roadway in a floodplain.  We are in the process of refining the design to identify cost saving opportunities.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Environmental impacts and improvements have not been identified at this time.

Impacts to Traffic
Intermittent lane closures are expected during the construction of this project (2008).
