Complete Fall 2011
We heard from many residents who were concerned about losing the left turn from northbound SR 9 to westbound 152nd Street SE. After additional consideration, WSDOT has decided not to restrict the left turn at this time.
In fall 2011 WSDOT installed curbing and a raised island in the center of SR 9 to reinforce the existing turn restrictions from either side of 152nd Street. The curbing and island prevent drivers from making left turns from 152nd Street SE to SR 9. Drivers can still make left and right turns from either direction of SR 9 to 152nd Street SE.
Snohomish County Public Works completed a project to extend 83rd Avenue SE north to Cathcart Way to provide access to SR 9 at the signalized SR 9/Cathcart Way intersection.
Project background
In fall 2009 we modified the intersection of SR 9 and 152nd Street SE as part of our SR 9 widening project. We added turn pockets on northbound and southbound SR 9 to reduce the risk of rear-end and sideswipe collisions, which increased the width of the highway. We also added left-turn restrictions on eastbound 152nd Street SE because drivers no longer have adequate sight distance to safely complete their turns. Drivers on eastbound 152nd Street SE must now use alternate routes to reach northbound SR 9.
