Project Facts
  • The 2005 Transportation Partnership Funding Package contributed funds to this safety project.
  • Over 10,000 vehicles a day travel through this project
  • SR 823 was originally constructed as a County road and became a State highway in 1991

Project Status

July 2008

• WSDOT and the contractor, Granite Northwest, Inc., completed the new sidewalk and intersection improvements in May 2008.

Why is WSDOT improving SR 823?
There is significant pedestrian traffic from Selah High School and Carlon Park to the residential area north of Goodlander Road along SR 823. Currently there is only a sidewalk on the west side of SR 823.

The End Result
The project will provide a much needed sidewalk on the east side of SR 823 between Goodlander Road and Harrison Road.

WSDOT will also improve the intersection at Goodlander Road to allow easier right-turns onto northbound SR 823 and eliminate the northbound "jog" shown in the photo.

Project Benefits

  • Safety. The new sidewalk will give pedestrians a safer route to walk between Carlon Park, Selah High School and the residential area along SR 823.
  • Right-turns onto northbound SR 823 at Goodlander Road will be safer and the northbound "jog" at the intersection will be eliminated.

What is the project timeline?
Construction on this project began in March 2008 and should be complete by summer.
