Recent Progress

This project is being coordinated with the I-5 Fairhaven to Ferndale Freeway Master Plan which will result in a master plan for needed improvements along the I-5 corridor between Fairhaven (milepost 250) and Ferndale (milepost 262).

The analysis of current and future traffic conditions and needs for SR 539 (Guide Meridian) is nearing completion.  Several alternatives to enhance safety, relieve congestion and improve freight mobility on SR 539 between the I-5 interchange and Smith Road have been evaluated.  A report of the findings will be distributed in February 2007.

Public outreach activities during the quarter focused on briefings to local elected officials and their staff on project purpose, schedule, and results from our traffic analysis.  We received valuable input on local issues and concerns in the project area.   An information kiosk, along with project information folios and mail-in comment cards, is on display at a series of public venues, in concert with media coverage, to solicit input from the general public.  Public comments continue to come in.  We are tabulating those comments.
