SR 529 - Snohomish River Bridges Repair - Complete November 2006

Overview
We repaired and replaced parts on two draw bridges on State Route 529, located in the Everett vicinity. The bridges are more than half a century old and eligible for the National Register of Historic places. We preserved history and safety by replacing the movable parts of the bridges to ensure continued working bridges for drivers.  We also upgraded ladders, stairs, and catwalks and added access ladders and platforms to ensure that workers have safe access when doing repairs.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
We replaced old moveable parts on these busy draw bridges to keep the structures safe and functioning for drivers who rely on them everyday. We also improved safety and access for maintenance crews working on the bridges to reduce maintenance costs and save tax dollars.

Partnerships & Cooperation
We awarded the construction contract to the most competitive bidder, Mowat Construction of Woodinville. Repair work began in August and wrapped up ahead of schedule in November 2006.

At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.

Although this project did not involve tribal resources, Section 106 Consultation conducted with the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP) determined that the bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic places. The consultation also determined that the project would not result in an adverse effect to the bridge.

To learn more about Section 106 Tribal Consultation (also called government-to-government tribal consultation process) please visit WSDOT's Tribal Liaison page, where you'll find the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan and WSDOT's Tribal Consultation Policy (Adopted by the Transportation Commission on Feb. 19, 2003).
