SR 525 - Clinton Ferry Terminal to Bob Galbreath Road - Paving

Project Facts
  • We will resurface just over half a mile between the ferry terminal and Bob Galbreath Road.
  • Resurfacing the highway extends the life of the roadway.
  • Paving will take place at night and take about five nights to complete.

  • Paving has been delayed until mid-July.
  • We will pave at night to avoid delaying drivers and is expected to take about five nights to complete.

Overview
We will resurface the highway from the Clinton Ferry Terminal to the intersection of Bob Galbreath Road to extend the life of the roadway.

Why is WSDOT resurfacing this section of SR 525?
This section of highway is in need of resurfacing. The pavement is beyond its useful life span and in need of repair. Resurfacing it now will extend the life of the roadway and save money.

The End Result
We will repair cracks in the existing pavement and add a new layer of pavement.

We will also replace sidewalk ends and some corners of the intersection to make them more accessible to people with disabilities, and add a section of sidewalk on the south side of SR 525, starting on the southwest corner of Deer Lake Rd and heading west for 190 feet

The highway will be preserved and smoother for drivers. Roadway safety features, such as guardrail, lane markings and signs, will be upgraded to meet current design standards.

Project Benefits

  • Safety - This project increases safety with new, smooth pavement, safer sidewalks and upgraded guardrail and signs along SR 525.
  • Pavement lifespan - Resurfacing extends the highway's lifespan and will prevent further damage to the pavement.

What is the project timeline?

  • June - We expect to complete paving before the end of June
  • April 28 - Construction begins
  • February 2008 - We awarded the project to Krieg Construction Inc. of Oak Harbor.

Environmental Protection
WSDOT makes every effort to assess and minimize environmental impact from our projects. During project design, WSDOT will work to reduce the impact to wetlands, creeks and rivers if any exist within the project area. A detailed analysis of the project's environmental impacts will be completed and, if necessary, an appropriate plan for mitigation of impacts will be developed and documented as part of the Environmental Documentation and Environmental Permitting processes.

Increasing safety is one of our priorities
This project will provide drivers with a smoother, safer driving surface by eliminating cracks and potholes. Drivers will also see improved sidewalk ends, guardrail and signage along this route.

Will this project impact tribal resources?
This project will not impact tribal resources.

At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
