SR 522 - Snohomish River Bridge to U.S. 2 Widen to 4-Lane Divided Highway, Monroe

Project Description

Contractor/Consultant
Project not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
Record of survey, wetland/sensitive area identification and discipline reports have been completed.  A second project scoping meeting with the local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to present the alternatives analysis for siting the new Snohomish River bridge was held July 20, 2006.  The final Archy./Historical/Cultural resource report has been completed and the report has been forwarded to the Tribes for review. The core team narrowed down the alignment and bridge options and has met with Management to determine final option for the river crossing.  The selected bridge option may have impact on the project budget. A cost risk assessment workshop was completed in June 2006 with the results scheduled to be ready by the end of July 2006.

Design Construction Impacts
WSDOT will consult with various local, state, and federal regulatory agencies on the citing of the new Snohomish River bridge.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

Mitigation efforts will include avoidance measures and adherence to state and federal permit requirements.

This project will construct storm water treatment facilities for both water quality and quantity.  Use of temporary erosion control measures during construction will minimize impacts.

Impacts to Traffic
Construction will start in 2009, traffic will experience narrower lanes & shoulders, slower speeds, and some advanced publicized nighttime and weekend closures may occur (detours will be provided.)  All 4 lanes should be open to traffic by summer 2012.

Project Milestones Scheduled Attained Milestone Outlook
Environmental Permits Fall 2008 The project is in the early stages of the Environmental Documentation process.
Right of Way Purchased Fall 2008
Finish Contract Plans Fall 2008
Contract Advertised Fall 2008 Late 2004/early 2005 during the wait for the decision on the proposal to transfer the funding from this project to other projects on this SR 522 corridor, and the uncertainty of funding on this project, the design was slowed down. This slow down may impact the ad date. However, this slow down should have no impact on the start of the construction season or the operationally complete date. The project will still meet the 2009 construction season start.
