Project Title & Location
SR 522 - Snohomish River Bridge to U.S. 2 Widen to 4-Lane Divided Highway, Monroe

Project Description
The project will widen SR 522 to four lanes between the Snohomish River and US 2 in Monroe. The project also builds five bridges for the new roadway, including a 1/3 mile bridge across the Snohomish River.

Project not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
Biological Assessment is currently under review by the Agencies. We have received comments on the Biological Assessment from United States Fish and Wildlife (USFW) and National Marine Fish Service (NMFS) and have responded to those comments.  Biological Opinion (BO) by the Services is expected by Feb 2008.  The draft Environmental Assessment is in review.  An Environmental Hearing is being scheduled for May 8, 2008 at the Monroe HIgh School.  We are continuing work on the Design Documentation for the roadway design.

Design Construction Impacts
Acquisition of right-of-way for flood plain mitigation and stormwater treatment facilities may impact property zoned for farmland and commercial uses.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

Mitigation efforts will include avoidance measures and adherence to state and federal permit requirements.

 

This project will construct storm water treatment facilities for both water quality and quantity.  Use of temporary erosion control measures during construction will minimize impacts.

Impacts to Traffic
Construction will start in 2010.  Traffic will experience narrower lanes & shoulders, slower speeds, and some advanced publicized nighttime and weekend closures may occur (detours will be provided.)  All 4 lanes should be open to traffic by summer 2012.

Contract Advertised Dec 2009 Good.  The ad date for the project has been delayed from Feb 2009 to Dec 2009 to allow additional time to acquire all environmental permits prior to ad.
