Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2004

Project Title & Location
SR 520 W Lake Sammamish Parkway to SR 202 - Redmond

Project Description
This project will widen State Route 520 to eight lanes between the West Lake Sammamish Parkway Interchange and the State Route 202 Interchange. The widening includes auxiliary lanes, ramps and high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes.

Contractor/Consultant
CH2MHILL selected as design consultant for project.

Recent Progress

Phase 1a agreement with our consultant CH2MHill was singed on December 22nd, 2003 and Notice To Proceed (NTP) was sent to the consultant.  The design work for this project is underway and the first chartering meeting was held on January 14th where local agencies and all stake holders where invited. 

Design Construction Impacts

Design and scope of work being coordinated with Cities of Redmond and Sammamish.


Impacts to buffer of Bear Creek are planned to be coordinated early with Redmond and Corps of Engineers adjacent project.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

· Current proposal is to update 1992 approved SEPA EIS

·Redmond is planning a project to enhance and meander Bear Creek adjacent to SR 520 in this area

·Stormwater detention prior to release to Sammamish River may be required, but will be difficult due to right-of-way constraints, low roadway elevations and high water table.

Impacts to Traffic
· No significant impacts expected until Spring 2009 when project is under construction. Mitigation efforts will include a comprehensive public awareness campaign.
