The yellow lines in this aerial perspective of the SR 520 floating bridge indicate where the anchor cables are located under the water. We replaced 15 cables on the SR 520 Albert D. Rosellini floating bridge and 15 cables on the I-90 Homer Hadley floating bridge.

The red lines in this graphic indicate which anchor cables on each bridge we replaced.

The cables connect the floating bridges to anchors in the bed of Lake Washington. Anchoring the floating bridges to the bed of Lake Washington keeps the bridges from moving in heavy storms or fluctuating conditions. Hydraulic jacks within the bridge pontoons increase or release pressure on the cables as the level of the lake changes.
