SR 519/I-90 to SR 99 - Intermodal Access Project I/C Improvements

Project Description
SR 519 is an important thoroughfare for cars, freight and pedestrians in Seattle's SODO district that connects I-90 and I-5 with the Port of Seattle and Colman Ferry Dock. Roadway congestion is increased by a railroad crossing. Phase 2 of this project will determine scope, design and construct additional improvements to reduce pedestrian, car and truck congestion and increase safety and freight mobility.

Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Assessment by CH2M Hill. Public Involvement by EnviroIssues. Project Managment Assistance by Baillie and Assoc.

Recent Progress
The team has finalized the Environmental discipline reports, draft Environmental Assessment and Final Letter of No Effect. Preliminary Engineering is near completion and the design has been presented to the Seattle Design Commission. Geotechnical and Archeological Field investigations have begun.

Design Construction Impacts
The team is working to advance the construction of this project by utilizing a design-build procurement method. Construction completion would be accelerated from mid 2012 to end of 2010.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The draft Environmental Assessment was available to the public for comment in February, 2008. The April 2008 Finding of No Significance (FONSI) is on schedule.

Impacts to Traffic
The corridor will see improved traffic at the completion of the project. Construction impacts will be minimized. The team is working to provide a solution that will allow one lane each way on Royal Brougham to remain open.
