Construction could affect how you get to a major event at Safeco Field, Qwest Field or the Qwest Field Event Center until early spring 2010.
What you can expect
- You will see significant construction activity as you arrive at the ballpark or stadium. The good news is that while things will look different, fans will still be able to get to all games and events.
- Lane closures on S. Royal Brougham Way (pdf 543 kb) between Occidental Avenue S. and Fourth Avenue S. Access to the Qwest Field garage will be provided.
- A full closure and no parking on Third Avenue S. between the Atlantic Street(Edgar Martinez Drive) overpass and S. Royal Brougham Way.
- Lane closures and parking restrictions on First Avenue S. between Horton and Stacy streets near Starbucks for city of Seattle paving work.
- Fewer on-street parking spaces in SODO. Be prepared for the possibility of a long walk to the game if you’re coming from the south.
- Private parking west of First Avenue S. between S. Royal Brougham Way and Railroad Way S. is closed while crews relocate electrical lines from the Alaskan Way Viaduct. However, WSDOT recently reopened several hundred private lot parking spaces for events that had been closed due to viaduct-related building demolition.
- Pedestrian access on S. Royal Brougham Way will be open at all times though it may be limited to either the north or south sidewalk; clearly marked pedestrian detours will be provided.
What you can do to get to the game or concert on time
- Allow extra time. Try leaving early and enjoying lunch or dinner in the area before the game.
- Carpool or use transit. Consider parking downtown and taking the bus to the game or event.
- Avoid S. Royal Brougham Way unless you plan to park in the Qwest Event Center Garage
- Expect a little longer walk due to parking restrictions and pedestrian detours.
- Expect additional congestion on city streets near Safeco Field.
- Know before you go:
- Pay attention:
- Follow signs
- Watch for pedestrians
