Why is WSDOT adding a new off-ramp?

WSDOT is working with the city of Burien to add a new two-lane off-ramp from eastbound State Route 518 to Des Moines Memorial Drive to support the planned redevelopment of the Northeast Redevelopment Area (NERA).

The new off-ramp at the intersection of eastbound State Route 518 and Des Moines Memorial Drive will improve freight and vehicle access to the NERA.

The city of Burien plans to redevelop the area into a job-creating commercial center with airport-compatible land uses.

The End Result
The new two-lane off-ramp will cross over 8th Avenue South and join Des Moines Memorial Drive below, creating access to the NERA.

Project Benefits
The new off-ramp will provide direct access for freight and drivers using SR 509 to Des Moines Memorial Drive.

What is the project timeline?
Spring 2017 - Project will be advertised for competitive bidding.
