SR 503 - Lewisville Park - Climbing Lanes - Complete October 2010

Overview
This project added climbing lanes to SR 503 in the vicinity of NE 244th Street to approximately 1/2 mile north of 269th Street (mileposts 9.35 to 10.78).

This section of SR 503 carries an average of 16,000 vehicles per day, 10 percent of which are trucks, RV’s and boats given the recreational location of this area.

Traffic volumes along SR 503 have been increasing significantly. Climbing lanes help reduce collisions and backups by providing slower moving trucks and vehicles an additional, safe lane to travel in. This reduces conflicts between slower moving trucks and passing vehicles. In addition, the project paved, striped and improve signage at the intersection of SR 503 and Gabriel Road.

This safety improvement project increases driver safety, and preserves the conditions of the roadway.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
Providing climbing lanes allows slow-moving vehicles to safely move out of the traffic stream, improving safety for drivers.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
The climbing lanes will reduce collisions on this section of SR 503 and allow smoother travel with fewer delays.
