  • Construction is scheduled to begin winter/spring 2010.
  • For additional information regarding public involvement, safety improvements, environmental protection and tribal impacts of this project, visit the Project Specifics page.

Overview
This project will make improvements to SR 503 in the vicinity of NE 244th St. to approximately 1/2 mile north of 269th Street. The improvements will reduce congestion and improve safety by adding climbing lanes on the north and southbound lanes of SR 503.

Why is WSDOT making these improvements to SR 503?
Traffic volumes along SR 503 have been increasing significantly. Adding climbing lanes to the north and southbound lanes will reduce collisions due to conflicts between slower moving trucks and large vehicles, and passing vehicles.

The End Result

This project will add climbing lanes to SR 503 from the vicinity of NE 244th St. to approximately 1/2 mile north of 269th Street. This will help to reduce congestion and improve safety.

Project Benefits

  • Safety. Providing climbing lanes allows slow-moving vehicles to safely move out of the traffic stream. Ease of travel will be greatly improved.
  • Decrease Delays. The climbing lanes will allow smoother travel with fewer delays.

What is the project timeline?

  • Summer 2006: Design process began.
  • Spring 2010: Construction scheduled to begin.
  • Spring 2011: Estimated completion of construction.
