Recent Progress

This project is currently in the early design phase.  WSDOT received a $15 million funding package from the Washington State Legislative Transportation Funding Package 2003 for this project.  During the past Legislative session, an additional $50 million in gas tax money was approved for completion of this project in the state’s 2005 Transportation Partnership Funding Package.  WSDOT is continuing to develop preliminary alignments for the proposed widening.  WSDOT biologists are working on delineating the wetland boundaries, which will be used to evaluate various alignment options.

Design Construction Impacts
It is too early in project development to determine the magnitude of these impacts. However, due to the size and complexity of the project it is clear there will be significant impacts.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The necessary environmental impact study for this project has not been conducted. This study will detail the project's direct and indirect environmental impacts (natural, ecological, societal and economic) in order to guide final design and construction.
