I-5 - SR 502 - Interchange

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2005

Project Title & Location
I-5 / SR 502 Interchange

Project Description
This new interchange, connecting I-5 to State Route 502, will reduce congestion, improve safety and provide more direct access from Interstate 5 to north Clark County and Battle Ground.

Contractor/Consultant
Project is not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress

This project is in the Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Assessment phase.  The new interchange configuration is now a partial clover leaf.   In February, the interchange design was modified slightly to incorporate a new loop ramp to I-5 northbound.  This loop ramp will minimize environmental impacts, affect fewer property owners and save taxpayers approximately $1 million.   There is an Access Hearing and Open House scheduled for March 24, 2005.  The hearing will allow property owners with access issues to formally make comments and have them addressed by WSDOT.  Geotechnical drilling has begun and preliminary bridge plans are close to being finished.

Design Construction Impacts

Right of way acquisition, geotechnical uncertainty and storm water treatment have been identified as potential risk items. The project team is developing a risk management plan to minimize impacts to the scope, schedule and budget.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Parsons, Brinkerhoff, Quade & Douglas, a consultant to WSDOT, is finishing the technical reports and preparing the evironmental assessment.

Impacts to Traffic
No impacts during design.
