I-5 - SR 502 - Interchange

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending December 2006

Project Title & Location
I-5 / SR 502 Interchange

Project Description
This new interchange, connecting I-5 to State Route 502, will reduce congestion, improve safety and provide more direct access from Interstate 5 to north Clark County and Battle Ground.

Contractor/Consultant
Project is currently advertised for construction.

Recent Progress
PS&E is complete.  This project will be advertised on December 26, 2006.  Bid opening will occur in mid February 2007.  The current Project Cost Summary reflects WSDOT's construction budget increase of $ 13 million due to cost escalation.

Design Construction Impacts
The geotechnical report identified high moisture content in the native soils which makes it unsuitable as subgrade without improvement.  The contract will include two alternatives for subgrade stabilization: overexcavation and replacement with borrow material and cement modification.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Approximately 20 acres of new wetland will be created to mitigate the impacts of the project.  HPA, Sect 401 Cert, and Army Corps of Engineer permits have been received.

Impacts to Traffic
No impacts during design.  The construction of the bridge will require up to 10 nighttime directional closures of I-5 in order to places supergirders.  The construction of the fish passable culvert will require a 5 day closure of the Gee Creek Rest Area.
