The new interchange will be built in several stages, and construction activities will impact traffic for up to a year and a half. The timeframes on this page may adjust slightly as the project moves through construction.

STAGE 1
Spring - Summer 2011
Work activities
- Contractor crews will start construction by installing safety features on the alternate routes (NE 42nd Ave., NE 44th St. and E 33rd St.).
- Crews will complete pre-construction activities.
Traffic impacts
- SR 500 – Minor night time delays.
- St. Johns Blvd. – Minor night time delays.

Fall 2011 - Winter 2012
Work activities
- Crews will build a temporary detour, or “shoofly,” route along St. Johns Blvd.
- A portion of the Burnt Bridge Creek/Discovery Trail System will be closed for realignment.
Traffic impacts
- SR 500 – Speed reduced to 45 MPH, narrowed lanes, left turns prohibited at St. Johns Blvd.
- St. Johns Blvd. – Speed reduced to 25 MPH, traffic reduced to two lanes, left turns prohibited at SR 500.

Spring 2012 – Summer 2012
Work activities
- Traffic on St. Johns Blvd. will be shifted to the shoofly route, around the bridge construction zone.
- Crews will build the new bridge over SR 500 and begin constructing new interchange ramps.
Traffic impacts
- SR 500 – Speed reduced to 45 MPH, narrowed lanes, left and right turns prohibited at St. Johns Blvd.
- St. Johns Blvd. – Speed reduced to 25 MPH, traffic reduced to two lanes, left turns prohibited at SR 500.

STAGE 3
Summer 2012 – Winter 2013
Work activities
- Traffic on St. Johns Blvd. will be shifted to the new bridge over SR 500.
- Crews will remove the traffic signal from the SR 500/St. Johns Blvd. intersection.
- Through-traffic will flow freely on both SR 500 and St. Johns Blvd.
- The interchange ramps on the east side of St. Johns Blvd. will be open to traffic.(On-ramp to eastbound SR 500, off-ramp from westbound SR 500)
- Crews will complete construction work on the ramps on the west side of St. Johns Blvd. (On-ramp to westbound SR 500, off ramp from eastbound SR 500).
Traffic impacts
- Eastbound SR 500 – No off-ramp to St. Johns Blvd.
- Westbound SR 500 – No on-ramp from St. Johns Blvd.
- St. Johns Blvd. – Speed reduced to 25 MPH, traffic reduced to two lanes, no off-ramp from SR 500 eastbound, no on-ramp to SR 500 westbound.
