Areas at risk for flooding and erosion from the White River are both inside and outside of Mount Rainier National park. During summer weekdays, this stretch of highway carriers over 1,500 vehicles a day in the national park vicinity. The White River originates at the Emmons and Frying Pan Glaciers on Mount Rainier.
