SR 410 - Nile Valley Landslide - Reconstruct Route

Project in construction phase

The SR 410 detour  provides a route around the Nile Valley Landslide.

Status

May 2012

  • Construction on the new highway along the toe of the slide starts in June.
  • WSDOT awarded the construction contract to Apollo, Inc., of Kennewick.
  • The detour route around the landslide is open to drivers. The five-mile detour is a paved 35 mph two-lane roadway. Drivers can access the detour from SR 410 by turning onto Nile Loop Road.

Why is WSDOT reconstructing SR 410?
On October 11, 2009, a massive landslide uplifted and destroyed a quarter mile of State Route 410 and changed the landscape and river dynamics of the Nile Valley forever. WSDOT and many other agencies established an emergency route around the landslide. In addition, Governor Gregoire tasked WSDOT and crews to build a temporary detour route which crews completed on Nov. 24, 2009.

Now it’s time to reconstruct a permanent route.

The End Result
WSDOT and crews will construct a permanent route for SR 410 along the toe of the landslide.

Project Benefits
Safety - A permanent SR 410 will restore a safe and reliable transportation corridor.

What is the project timeline?

  • Complete design / right of way acquisition - early 2012
  • Begin construction - spring 2012
  • Scheduled completion - fall 2012
