Road damage due to culvert collapse
On Monday, Jan. 5, State Route 4 was closed when a culvert collapsed and severely damaged the road.

Culvert
State Route 4 near Naselle opened to traffic Tuesday, Sept. 29, after crews put the finishing touches on the culvert rehabilitation project.

Status

June 2017

Sept. 2015: Construction work was completed and the roadway is opened up to traffic.

Why is WSDOT completing emergency repairs to SR 4, west of Naselle...
A portion of State Route 4 was damaged when a culvert collapsed on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, due to heavy rains.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation built a temporary bypass road.

This will allow traffic to move through the area, at a reduced speed, while permanent repairs to the highway and the culvert are being made.

The End Result
The new culvert will restore travel on State Route 4 West of Naselle at milepost 3.1.

Project Benefits
This project will rebuild the damaged highway and replace the culvert.

What is the project timeline?
Jan. 2015: Heavy rains and flooding washed out the culvert
July 2015: Construction began to rebuild the culvert.
Sept. 2015: Construction work was completed and the roadway is opened up to traffic.

Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.

Repairs to the roadway are anticipated to cost $1.5 million. Federal emergency relief funds will cover the costs of the culvert replacement and road repair.
