SR 4 - Skamokawa to Coal Creek Road Paving and Guardrail - Complete December 2009

Through this project, WSDOT's contractor Lakeside Industries of Longview improved nearly 28 miles of roadway on SR 4 in Wahkiakum and Cowlitz counties.

Guardrail improvements and paving was completed between Skamokawa in Wahkiakum County (mile post 27.47) and Coal Creek Road in Cowlitz County (mile post 55.01).

Additionally, crews paved West Little Island Road and Beaver Creek Road in Wahkiakum County by agreement with Wahkiakum County.

A recent statewide analysis found that this section of SR 4 was in need of roadside safety enhancements and preservation to help decrease the severity of run-off the road collisions and rejuvenate the road's surface to enhance drivability.

Guardrail improvements included the replacement of existing guardrail, and cable barrier, restoration of eroded roadway embankments and asphalt curbs, and newly retrofitted bridges throughout the length of the project.

Paving this section of SR 4 repairs ruts and cracks in the pavement and extends the life of the roadway, in addition to providing a smoother and safer ride for all motorists.
