SR 4 - East of County Line Park - Rockfall Work - Complete September 2008

Overview
Through this project, safety improvements were made to the State Route 4 Corridor between mileposts 45.92 and 45.95, just east of County Line Park.

Crews removed loose rock, unstable soil, trees and other debris from this slope. In addition, crews installed rock anchors to hold large rocks in place to further stabilize the rock slope above the highway. Crews also installed a cable fence along the slope to reduce the risk of rocks falling onto the highway.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
Prior to this project's execution, maintenance records and geotechnical investigations had shown that rock fall prevention was necessary at this location in order to reduce the risk of rocks falling onto the highway and protect the traveling public.

Safety is WSDOT’s number one priority, and this stretch of State Route 4 often succumbs to weather-related slides, compromising safety and spurring costly repairs. This project will help reduce both.

Partnerships & Cooperation
Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. A public meeting was held on February 6, 2008 at the Cowlitz County PUD, allowing WSDOT to share information and receive input from the public. WSDOT continually informed the public of the project status through this Web page and the local media.

At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
