Approximately 85 people turned out for the ceremonial ground-breaking July 6, marking the beginning of the construction for the SR 304 Bremerton Tunnel. Emcee and Regional Administrator, Kevin Dayton, hosted the event and was thrilled to recognize more than 14 legislators and local officals that attended.
Representative from Tri-State Construction, Inc., who was awarded the contract to build the tunnel, also attended and provided the tractor at the event, which was used to demolish part of the old Les Schwab building. (WSDOT is managing and executing this federally-funded project).
Congressman Norm Dicks, a native of the area, addressed the crowd, thrilled that a vision developed so many years ago is finally coming into fruition.
WSDOT’s Chief of Staff, Paula Hammond was also on hand and spoke to WSDOT’s commitment to deliver this tunnel on time and on budget.
The 24-month project is slated for a spring 2008 completion.
