Recent Progress

WSDOT is currently implementing the Value Engineering study recommendations. We are balancing the project costs with impacts to the natural environment and public needs. We are working with the City of Bremerton on the appearance of the bridge and the city street tie-ins on both sides of the bridge. We are working with the environmental agencies to come up with the best methods for construction and demolition.

Design Construction Impacts

Bridge construction and demolition methods are greatly influenced by the environmental restrictions.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

Storm water will be collected and treated in accordance with current standards. The majority of the work will be in- or above-water work. Several environmental permits are required for this project: Corps of Engineers section 404, Nationwide COE, Coast Guard, BA NEPS CDE, SEPA DNS.

Impacts to Traffic

The public can expect periodic lane closures and slow-moving traffic through the work zone during construction. The bridge will be closed up to three months to tie the ends of the bridge into the existing streets. The public will be provided advance notice of the closure and a detour will be established.
