SR 3 - Belfair Bypass - New Alignment

Project Description
The proposed Belfair Bypass will redirect SR 3 through traffic around the community of Belfair on a limited access highway and will reduce congestion in Belfair.

Recent Progress
The Preferred Alternative Connections have been selected for preliminary design and environmental study.  A connector on the north end near Lake Flora Road (N3) and another south of the North Mason School District (S4) will make the bypass the primary route for SR3 traffic.

Site survey of the 5 mile corridor is under way and is approximately 75% complete.

Discipline studies for the Environmental Assessment will be predominately conducted by WSDOT Eastern Region staff.

Preliminary engineering project management plan and schedule under development.

N/A

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Will be evaluated and determined as a result of environmental studies and preliminary design.

Impacts to Traffic
This project, which constructs a new corridor, will bisect the Alta-Vista neighborhood. A system of frontage roads will be required to provide access. Due to the absence of construction funding for this project, it is very unlikely that this new road will be constructed before sewer and widening work in the Belfair Urban area begins.

Consultant chosen to complete Environmental Assessment March 15, 2006 This was formerly a county led project and the scope is not completely defined.  Future milestones and complete phase costs are still being developed.
Open House to Present Alternatives January 9, 2007 January 9, 2007 Received comments and suggestions from open house to show public preference for alternatives.
Announce Selected Alternative to Public Summer 2007 September 25, 2007
Project Definition Complete March 30, 2007 This will be completed Spring 2009.
Environmental Documentation Complete June 2, 2008 Current schedule results in completing environmental documentation in December 2010.
