The old timber bridge that crossed Pine Creek was structurally deficient and due for replacement. In addition, during snow melt periods, water would flow across the low-lying roadway.
The new bridge and adjacent roadway are not subject to periods of flowing water across the roadway which was a safety hazard to motorists.
| Economic Incentive
The new bridge is not subject to flood-related closures allowing freight and passenger traffic to travel without disruption.
