Project Complete - June 2009
Construction began June 1st and was completed on June 19th.
This Collision Prevention project began west of Othello on SR 26 bordering Adams and Grant County extending 21.5 miles. This safety improvement project included rumble strips, guardrail and roadside hazard removal.
Why is WSDOT
installing rumble strips and guardrail on SR 26?
To reduce the number and severity of run off the road accidents.
The End Result
This project increases motorist safety by installing rumble strips and guardrail, reducing the severity of run off the road accidents on this busy route to WSU.

This project improves safety, reducing the volume of vehicles leaving the roadway by:
- Providing a collision prevention measure with rumble strips.
- Providing a higher level of protection with new guardrails.
What is the project timeline?
Construction began June 1st and was completed June 19, 2009, a week early.
Financial Information
The project was advertised for private contractor bids on February 9th, 2009. Four qualifed bids were opened March 5th. On March 9th, contract #7684 was awarded to Frank Gurney, Inc. for $239,176.05, 27% under the engineering estimate.
This project was funded through the following sources:
- 2005 TPA Funding - $720,000
- Total Funding - $720,000
