Project Facts
- Lighting at these intersections was recommended as part of the 2004 SR 26 Corridor Safety Project.
- Legislators included these projects in the 2005 9-1/2 cent gas tax package.
- The Reynolds Road intersection work is being delayed until 2009 to accommodate other improvements that are also being made by the City, the Port and a private developer.
Fall 2008
The illumination installation at B S.E. was combined with the 2008 Region Chip Seal Project and was completed in July.
The illumination installation and other improvements at Reynolds Road will be advertised for private contractor bids April 14th, 2009 and constructed later that summer.
This Safety Improvement Program project provides for illumination at the intersections of SR 26 and B S.E. and at SR 26 and Reynolds Road.
Why is WSDOT
illuminating these intersections?
Reynolds Road and B S.E. have an accident history of night time collisions.
Reynolds Road is located between the City of Othello and the Adams County line. It's busy with agricultural traffic, commuter traffic, residential traffic and long distance traffic, to and from WSU. Illumination will improve safety at this busy intersection.
The End Result
The potential for night time collisions will be reduced with the addition of illumination at these two locations.
Project Benefits
Safety and mobility will be improved.

Will this project impact tribal resources?
A cultural resource study was conducted with no impacts found. WSDOT seeks to address the concerns of tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
