SR 240 / Yakima River Bridge at Richland (Phase 2)

Project Description
Construct two new bridges on SR 240 to replace the deficient four-lane bridge over the Yakima River. New bridges will each provide three general-purpose lanes and one auxiliary lane. The new bridges will tie in with the additional lanes to be constructed on SR 240 between I-182 and Columbia Center Boulevard, which are scheduled for completion in 2007.

Recent Progress
Work resumed on October 3, 2005. Due to the suspension of work, for more favorable weather that will ensure higher plant survivability, the project completion was pushed to November 2005. All planting has been completed This project received substantial completion on October 28, 2005, and is on schedule and under budget

Design Construction Impacts
WSDOT is continuing to work with the contractor on the change order reducing work by about $749,000 on this project due to the adjacent SR 240 Add Lanes project.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Construction and planting at Mitigation Site 1, 2 and 3 is complete.
The south 220 feet of the realigned ditch will be realigned on the adjacent contract.

Impacts to Traffic
There will be no more impacts to traffic.
The portions of the existing bike path under the bridge has been opened. The bike path across the 240/12N bridge will not be opened until remainder of the SR 240 corridor work is completed in 2007.
