SR 240 - 14 Miles South of SR 24 to Snively Road - Added Lanes

Project Description
The section of SR 240 from Beloit Road to Kingsgate Way has experienced a number of serious collisions. Widening the roadway to 12 ft lanes with 8 ft shoulders will improve the safety of the highway and provide more recovery area.

Recent Progress
WSDOT has met with DOE and tribal representatives to discuss the project and potential impacts in the area.  We are working with these groups to avoid culturally sensitive areas and to receive right of entry permissions to survey on DOE land.  Surveying work began in mid June.

Design Construction Impacts

There is a culturally sensitive area at the southeastern end of the project.  Project limits may  be change from MP 21.5 to MP 20.75 to avoid impacting the area.

Environmental Document Complete April 08 This project is on DOE land and will require a full biological assessment for NEPA and Section 106 due to sensitive areas near the intersection at SR 240 and SR 225.  Due to the length of time for this process, the Ad date may be postponed to January, 2009
Right of Way Certified September 08
Contract Advertisement Date October 08 Due to a lengthy environmental documentation process involving a BA and Section (106), the Ad date could be set back to January, 2009
Operationally Complete November 09 No impacts to the schedule anticipated
