Project Title & Location
SR 24 - SR 241 to Cold Creek Road - Add Passing Lanes

Project Description
This project will construct a passing lane uphill in both directions on SR 24 between SR 241 and Cold Creek Road. Constructing a passing lane will improve safety, reduce collisions, and increase traffic mobility.

Contractor/Consultant
Granite Northwest, Inc., dba Superior Paving Co.

Recent Progress
Construction of this project was awarded on January 22, 2008 to Granite Northwest, Inc. Contract work began on the project on March 17, 2008. Affected utilities were relocated in March along with preliminary work at the quarry site. Work in April will include fencing, earthwork and drainage for the added lanes along with crushing rock at the quarry site.

Design Construction Impacts
The contractor is currently two weeks behind according to the approved progress schedule, no significant impacts are anticipated. A revised progress schedule has been requested.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Region construction staff, with support from regional environmental staff, are working with contractor personnel to ensure compliance.

Impacts to Traffic
Pilot car controlled alternating one way traffic will be the primary traffic control. Traffic control will not begin until 7:00 AM to facilitate Hanford commuters. No detours will be required for this project.

Contract Advertisement Date Oct 07 Dec 2007 Later advertisement date due to right of way will not impact the opening date.
Operationally Complete Oct 08 Anticipated early Open to Traffic date of July 2008.
