Recent Progress
The contractor, Max J. Kuney started removing the old bridge over the Yakima river on August 13th and will be 90% complete by end of the Quarter. Work has resumed on landscaping and fencing the highway. WSDOT hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 28, 2007 to celebrate the opening of the roadway to traffic. On May 2, 2007 WSDOT dedicated corridor revitalization art work on the project. Additional art work is being install on the interstate bridge this quarter.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Due to recent listing of critical habitat for Mid-Columbia River Steelhead, additional coordination was necessary with the National Marine Fisheries Service prior to beginning 2007 in-water work. Concurrence was received allowing in-water work to begin without delay. A request for added time to the in-water work window through October 31 was approved by the National Marine Fisheries Service. The added time was needed to construct an adequate containment system for bridge demolition. Field inspectors and region environmental staff will closely monitor demolition, and conduct water quality monitoring as needed

Impacts to Traffic
All remaining work is off the roadway, so no lane restrictions are required for the work. A lane may be closed as needed for construction access.
