SR 24 – I-82 to Keys Road – Additional Lanes – Yakima

Project Description
This project constructs one additional lane in each direction from I-82 to Riverside Road, improves the interchange, and constructs a new bridge over the Yakima River, relieving congestion, improving safety, and addressing erosion at the Yakima River Bridge piers.

Recent Progress

The Access Modification Request was approved by FHWA on March 3, 2004. The Findings and Orders to change access around the interchange will be completed in mid May. Right of way appraisals began in March. Drilling for bridge and for other design was completed in March. A Cost Risk Assessment (CRA) was conducted on February 23rd and 24th. The CRA indicate an almost 100% chance that the project will be within budget, an 85% chance the project will meet the target AD date, and a 77% chance the improvement will be open to traffic on time.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

After a 45 day delay the FONSI was issued on March 2, 2004. Issuance of the Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) has been delayed pending the outcome of discussions to resolve the concerns by the City of Yakima.

Environmental Permits Sep 04 The Transportation Permit Efficiency and Accountability Committee (TPEAC) streamlined One-Stop Permitting and Multiple Agency Permitting Team (MAPT) will be utilized to accelerate permitting.
