Recent Progress
The Contractor, Max J. Kuney, has placed beams (tub girders) on the first stage of the I-82 interchange bridge and is placing falsework for a deck pour in the spring when weather is warmer. Foundation, column and cross beam work for the new Yakima River bridge is 90% complete and placing bridge beams is 50% complete. The Contractor has also completed new city access streets, and continues work on the SR 24 roadway.

Design Construction Impacts
This project is projected to overrun reimburseable utililty agreements by $150,000. The contract plans did not clearly define proposed utility locations and conflicts with work after relocations. This additional cost will be covered by current project funds.
Agreement work to be done for Yakima County has been delayed until next year because a local sewer district did not complete their pre-contract work as agreed. This delay has increased the cost of the agreement.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
This project is under review for a possible water discharge violation from the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Department of Ecology reviewed the project and determined that we cannot discharge pH laden water as outlined in the permits. The project cost will increase approximately $200,000 to disposed of this pH laden water as directed by The Department of Ecology. Temporary pollution control was under estimated and will add approximately $200,000 to the project cost.

Impacts to Traffic
A lane will be closed on I-82 as needed for construction access. The I-82 lane closure will cause back-ups during high traffic flows. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph between SR 24 and Riverside Road to I-82 for the life of the project. When needed, traffic on SR 24 will be controlled by flaggers. This will create delays up to five minutes and possible backups.
